DIATOMACEOUS EARTH - Detox - Gut Health - Hair - Skin & Nails

What it is, how it works, and what I’ve seen

Alright… I’m going to talk about this the way I actually talk about it in real life.

Not the watered-down version.

Not the “we can’t say anything unless there’s 25 studies” version.

Real talk.

Because I’ve used this myself…and I’ve watched what it does in real people.

First — this isn’t magic

Let’s get that straight.

If you’re looking for:

  • a quick fix

  • a fat loss shortcut

  • a miracle powder

This isn’t it.

But…

If you want something that can support your gut, your body and your structure properly

Then it has a place.

The gut support effect (what most people notice first)

This is usually the first bit of feedback I get.

“Jo… something’s definitely happening in there.”

And that’s exactly it.

Diatomaceous earth mostly moves through your digestive system rather than being fully absorbed like nutrients.

👉 the majority passes through

👉 a small portion of the silica can be absorbed by the body

That’s where you get things like the hair, skin and nail support.

The rest?

Think of it like a fine internal cleanse as it passes through.

And just to be clear…

👉 it’s not a laxative that forces your body to evacuate

It works more gently than that.

👉 as it moves through, it can help support the clearing of build-up in the digestive tract, things like:

  • accumulated waste

  • excess material

  • general digestive “backlog”

So rather than a sudden rush…

it’s more of a gradual clean-out effect

What people often report:

  • more regular bowel movements

  • less bloating

  • feeling lighter through the gut

It’s subtle for some, more noticeable for others.

But either way…

it’s not about forcing the body —it’s about supporting what the body is already trying to do.

Constipation (this one surprises people)

This is the weird one.

Because it’s a powder… people assume it would block you up.

But what I see is the opposite.

👉 it helps people move again

You’re not just adding bulk

you’re helping shift what’s already sitting there

And for a lot of women… that’s the difference between:

  • going every few days

  • and actually feeling clear daily

Gut balance

This is where a lot of people start using it.

I’m not going to go into fear tactics or make wild claims.

But I will say this:

👉 I’ve seen enough to know something is happening here

People report:

  • changes in digestion

  • less bloating

  • feeling “cleaner” through the gut

In the natural health space, it’s often used as a gentle support for gut balance

Detox — and why some people feel off

If your body is holding onto a lot of junk and you suddenly start moving it…

👉 you can feel rough

I’ve had it myself.

Coming off alcohol while using it?

It hit hard.

Not because it’s “toxic”

But because things are being shifted and cleared faster than you’re used to

So:

  • start slow

  • listen to your body

  • don’t go all in on day one

Hair, skin, nails — this is where it really shows

This one I see all the time.

  • nails get stronger

  • skin looks clearer

  • hair quality improves

And sometimes…

👉 you see things that genuinely surprise you

Real results — not theory

I don’t just talk about this stuff.

I see it.

A client had a bald patch for years after radiation therapy.

Nothing changed for a long time.

Then this was introduced as part of her routine.

And over a few months…

👉 her hair started coming back

Not just fluff.

Actual regrowth through an area that had been bare for years.

Why this can happen

Diatomaceous earth is rich in silica

And silica plays a role in:

  • collagen

  • connective tissue

  • hair strength and growth

So when the body actually gets what it needs…

👉 sometimes it responds in ways people weren’t expecting anymore

Cholesterol — there is some support here

There has been research showing improvements in cholesterol markers.

It’s not mainstream yet.

But it’s being looked at.

How it’s used in practice

When starting a nutrition plan, this can be used as a short-term support tool

👉 1 teaspoon per day

👉 work through around 150g

Why it’s used at the start

When someone begins, their system is often:

  • backed up

  • sluggish

  • not running optimally

So before focusing on perfection…

👉 the goal is to help the body clear out and settle first

Then everything else works better

Once the body isn’t as backed up…

👉 digestion feels easier

👉 energy improves

👉 the nutrition plan has something to work with

How to take it (do this properly)

Start low.

👉 ½ teaspoon per day

👉 build to 1 teaspoon

👉 up to 1 tablespoon max if needed

Mix in water. Drink straight away.

Follow with more water.

👉 take on an empty stomach

👉 keep 1–2 hours away from medications and supplements

What you might feel early on

  • changes in bowel movements

  • bloating shifting

  • feeling a bit off

If it’s too much → reduce the dose.

How long to use it

👉 2–4 weeks

👉 then take a break

Who shouldn’t use it (or needs to be careful)

Pregnancy and breastfeeding

Leave it out. There isn't enough information available yet.

Active gut inflammation

Avoid during flares (like ulcerative colitis).

IBS

Can help with constipation, but go slow and assess your response.

Hydration

Low water intake = not ideal.

Lung sensitivity

Food-grade silica is different to industrial silica and does NOT cause silicosis

But it’s still a fine powder.

👉 don’t inhale it

👉 mix gently

What results to expect (and when)

First few days

Things start moving

Week 1–2

More regular digestion

Week 2–4

Skin, nails, hair improvements

The bottom line

This isn’t magic.

But it is:

  • simple

  • supportive

  • and effective when used properly

And sometimes…

That’s all that’s needed.

Can be purchased online or in most health shops. (or via me, when available)
